Games List

What is the Games List

The Games list is used by Xfire to allow users to see what their friends are playing and for game detection. Xfire update their games list regularly, usually every two weeks. Gfire uses the same games list, but instead we use a shortened XML format.

It is important to keep your games list up to date, as there are often new games added, so you can see what your friends are playing.

Installing Games List

Since the 0.9.X series of Gfire the games list is checked for updates on every startup of Pidgin with an active Xfire account. You will be notified if there was an update performed.

Gfire 0.7.1 until 0.9.0 offer an option in the account menu which automatically downloads the newest list from our server. You should do that whenever you see your friends are playing a number.

Manual installation

The second way to install the Games List is via the website. This is the method to use if you are using Gfire 0.7.0 and below or if you have problems with your current list.

  • First download the games list from  here for versions prior 0.9.X and from  here for the 0.9.X series (please save it as gfire_games.xml first).
  • Move it to the right place:
    • For Linux it's ~/.purple
    • For Windows XP it's C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\Application Data\.purple\
    • For Windows Vista it's C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\.purple
  • Once the XML file is in the correct folder, click on 'Reload Game ID List' in Pidgin for Gfire < 0.9.0; Restart Pidgin for 0.9.0 and above.
